Does anyone know if there are any manufacturers of PCMIA WiMax cards?
This was selected as Best Answer Jim, There are a number of PC Cards (PCMCIA, CardBus, Express Card) announced for WiMAX. Most are single mode (meaning they only ‘speak’ WiMAX) and most are designed around mobile applications based on the IEEE 802.16e and ETSI HiperMAN specifications. The first WiMAX Forum Certified devices for Mobile WiMAX are not expected until the 2nd half of 2007. Some of the vendors who are sampling and/or shipping WiMAX PC Cards today include: Accton Wireless Broadband, Alpha Networks, Alvarion, JRC, Kyocera Wireless, LG Electronics, Motorola, Navini, POSDATA, Samsung, Telsima, ZTE and ZyXEL. Samsung has also announced a tri-mode PC Card that combines Mobile WiMAX, 1xEV-DO, and HSDPA. And LG is rumored to have a dual-mode PC Card ready. The big question is where to connect it — to use the device (as a consumer) you’ll need to have service in a WiMAX network. Those are a bit sparse today, but should be a lot more common over the next 18-24 months. Today, you coul
