No. A smear test only looks at cells fro the cervix and vagina. To make a diagnosis of an ovarian cyst, or a fibroid, you would need either an abdominal ultrasound scan, or a transvaginal ultrasound scan. Obviously, the other way of making a diagnosis for these two conditions would be a laparoscopy (a small surgical procedure where the doctor looks at your pelvic organs with a small telescope, inserted just below your tummy button). If your fibroid is a reasonable size, you may be able to feel it yourself…certainly a doctor would be able to feel it on bimanual pelvic examination. If you do have a fibroid, you may get symptoms such as heavy, painful periods-but this is not an exclusive symtom, and may be a sign of something else. Shouild you be suffering from an ovarian cyst, you may get thinning of your hair, and a lot a pelvic pain, particularly if the cyst gets twisted. Your best option would be to see your doctor, and tell him or her about all of your symtoms, and get examined.
