Does anyone know how to treat mange on a hamster?
The only kind of mange that hamsters can get is also transferrable to humans- watch out! In fact, the hamster is more likely to have caught it from a human in the first place than another animal. Did you ever hear of “crabs” in health class in school? That’s what sarcoptic mange is. So, take the little guy to a vet to make sure that’s what it really is, and if so the vet can give you a prescription. Look in your local phone book for a vet that specializes in Exotics… most “dog and cat” vets won’t know what to do for a hamster. If the vet confirms that mange is the problem, always wear gloves when handling the hamster or his bedding, or you may get this parasite as well!
