Maybe try soaking it in nappy soaker overnight with hot water. Rinse them then without adding any softener put a little wash powder or liquid and a little wool wash, which has eucalyptus in it which I find helps. If that doesn’t work tell hubby to buy you a set of new towels. My hubby does the same thought of thing and with 5 kids they often grab the first thing they see and use that for wiping up or mopping us spills. Good luck.
