Hello Jlover: Another name for a vendor’s license is a resale certificate. This entitles you to buy merchandise at wholesale prices for resale to consumers. You keep track of your sales and then report them quarterly, paying the taxes to your state entity that collects business taxes. This requires very strict bookkeeping on your part, because you may have to file with each state in which you sell product. Sometimes municipal governments also collect a tax on your sales, so you may need to get permits from both entities. Contact your local County or State government offices to find out which office handles this, and submit your applications. Each state has a government office for application of a permit like this. If your internet business does not sell tangible product, you will not benefit from a resale license, as things that you buy for your own use in your business is subject to sales tax in most states.
