You could cut the pole and put in an extension piece of pipe. Before you cut it, you will need to measure the outside diameter of the pole. If it is a hollow pipe then also measure the inside diameter. You should do this measuring before cutting the pole so that you can make sure you can get a piece of pipe to use for the extension section that will either fit snuggly on the inside or over the outside diameters of the existing pipe. A local hardware store or home improvement center should have pipe of different diameters. You will probably want galvanized pipe. You will also need two or maybe four 1/4 inch diameter bolts that are as long as the pipe diameter plus a half inch or so to accept washers and nuts. Once you find the pipe with the right diameter then you will cut the existing pole and cut the extension pipe to the length you desire plus about 3 inches on each end to fit into or over the existing pipe ends. Fit the extension pipe into or onto the existing pipe with about 3 inch
