Does anyone know how to explain Karl Marxs theory on school violence?
Whew! Karl Marx is a tough one to analyze! I swear, I don’t think he even knew what he was talking about most of the time. Okay, so what do we know about conflict theory and Marx? Well, he wrote from an economic viewpoint, right? Basically, the constant exploitation of the proletariat by the bourgeoisie would make them revolt and overthrow capitalism. Okay. What does this have to do with school violence? Well…if you want analyze cases like Columbine, VT, or other school shootings here, I think, is what Marx might say about it – the kids that committed the horrendous acts were social outcasts and often ridiculed. We can compare this to the proletariat. Marx *might* say that the shootings were inevitable as the exploited, bullied kids eventually had enough and rose up against the bourgeoisie, or the kids that did the bullying. Okay, there’s a shaky foundation for you to start on – Go!
