Does anyone know how to disable the anti-lock brake mechanism?
This I don’t know, you could probably unplug the control unit (or remove the fuse) and they would stop “anti-locking” (ideas, not advice) Due to the way they work, on a loose slippy surface you won’t gain anything from them (they suck on snow too) The ABS measures the wheel speed and determines if it has locked up in comparison with the other wheels. This is a tristate measure, rotating freely, about to lock or locked. If it is rotating freely, no action is taken. If it is about to lock, the ABS unit will lock the brakeline pressure to that wheel at that point. If it detectes lock up, it will vent fluid back to the reservior thus releasing the pressure (effectively releasing the brakes on that wheel) So what happens in snow or loose surfaces is the wheels lock and the ABS lets the brakes off, then it tries to reapply the brakes and they lock again. So the brakes go on and locked, off, on and locked, off. Locked wheels don’t slow you down by very much and no brakes are a little worse. H
