solid molecules vibrate in place and the solid keeps its shape and volume. Liquid molecules can slide all through the liquid. A liquid does not keep its shape, but does keep its volume. Gas molecules are moving the fastest and will spread out to fill any container. Gases do not keep their shape or volume.
