My son has been given a short piece to play on his bass guitar at the school carol concert (While Shepherds washed their socks), but nobody in the house can read music, even with the notes written above the black squiggly things. Unfortuantely, I feel you seem to be in a sort of paradox… to write tabs as reference material, you (son) need/s to learn the song. to learn the song, you (son) need/s tabs as reference material. Answer: My only suggestion, and I am not so sure it will be the quickest, easiest way, would be to use tabbing software that shows both the tab and the musical score. Power Tab Editor does this. One feature that it lacks, is that you can’t pick the note and place this note on the stave to show the tab representation but rather, you’ll have to devise a way to know what fingering, represents what note on the stave.
