Generally if there are problems with a medication, even if the company won’t admit it, there will be hundreds of websites complaining about it (for example, search “Zoloft problems”). I didn’t find this to be the case with Concerta. The safety page does indicate that higher doses are associated with increased side effects, but up to 54mg seems to be pretty safe. There are also smaller doses available, and if your doctor didn’t give you the option of starting your child at a lower dose and titrating up, I would ask him or her if that would be possible.
