Does anyone know how reliable polygraph tests are?
They’re not reliable. They don’t detect lies, they measure physiological responses in the body that are suppose to change when you’re lying. Fooling the polygraph is actually easier than you think. And it should be done because truthful people fail the polygraph because everyones physiological responses are different. In the beginning of the test, the polygrapher gives a stim test. A common stim test is when the polygrapher holds up one card at a time. The polygrapher will ask if it is a certain card, such as the 8 of diamonds. The applicant is told to say no no matter what the card is. Then the polygrapher will hold a second card, and the polygrapher will hold up another card with the same question, “Is it the 8 of diamonds?” The applicant is told to say no. Then the polygrapher will hold up the card that really is the 8 of diamonds, but the applicant still must say no. Then the polygrapher will show how the polygraph detected that lie.
