Does anyone know how much it is to lease a pub?
You don’t need any qualifications. Just ask the brewery that you use if they can get you onto one of their short courses – it’s only usually about 3/4 days and covers things like cellar work (keeping & storing beers, changing barrels, operating gas systems, cleaning pumps/pipes, stock rotation etc). The value of the lease depends on the pub. They are cheaper at the moment because no-one wants a pub in the middle of a recession! Pubs are closing at the rate of 40/50 a week in this country, so think long and hard before you proceed with this venture. It doesn’t sound like you have much knowledge of the pub trade – think carefully about costs and overheads. You need public liability insurance, employers liability insurance, gaming licence (if you have a bandit) PPL licence, PRS licence, etc etc. And all that has to be paid for along with heating, lighting, water rates, council tax and all the rest of it, before you can even think about making a profit.
