Does anyone know exact date (in Gregorian Calendar) of the Prophets (pbuh) birthday, 12th Rabi al Awwal?
We don’t even know the death day of the Prophet (pbuh) with certainty. Different traditions report different dates for death. Now, about the birth date, traditions report only that it was a Monday and it was 12th Rabi-al-Awwal. Remember, that the practice of Intercalation (Nasi’) was going on in Arabia at that time. They used to interject a month whenever they had some local reasons. The Arabian calendar, therefore was not preserved to tell us when the months were inserted. It has also been reported that the Makkan calendar was not the same as Medinian calendar using different practices of Intercalation (Nasi’). It is impossible to know which month was Rabi-al-Awwal in Makkah at the time of Prophet’s (PBUH) death. People have made speculations but they are by no means any proof that they may be correct.
