Does anyone know anything about Xg Technology and National Grid Wireless?
Utility companies have lots and lots tall towers carrying their high-tension electric lines. If a wireless company strikes a deal with one of these companies, they can use these towers to attach antennas, thus deploying their network much more quickly. Since these power lines often run through easements in residential areas where towers are not otherwise permitted to be built, it gives them the ability to serve difficult areas. Also, National Grid recently purchased Keyspan, who maintains a presence and an infrastructure in the lutrative Long Island, New York market, as well as other parts of the northeastern US. It’s all about expanding their portfolio of potential antenna sites.
