Does anyone know anything about Listeria/Listeriosis?
Listeria is commonly found in water, sewage and soil. It is a pathogenic bacteria, meaning it can travel through food (Mapleleaf meat for example). It could have transferred from the food to your friend, it most commonly happens when food isn’t cooked passed the temperature that listeria grows (about 37 degrees). If your friend is in hospital then the doctors will know what to do, there is different types of pills that your friend can take that kill the infection. The mapleleaf meat thing has became an outbreak in Canada so whilst that causes greater concern it also means that more effort will be put into controlling the situation. If your friends body accepts the antibiotics then his immune system will get rid of the lysteria infection. Hope this helps and speedy recovery to your friend.
