First thing to do is find out how old your washer is. Try googling the model number or checking on the manufacturer’s web site. If the washer is more than 10 years old you may want to seriously consider replacing it if you can not fix it yourself. Repairmen are very expensive ($150 just to walk in your door here in Mass.) and newer machines do a better job of spinning clothers drier (so they take less time to dry) and use much less water (especially the front loaders). If the machine is not draining properly it may be a blocked drain line (lint can accumulate here) or the water pump may be malfunctioning. If it is the water pump the price of the repair just went up. If the machine is not spinning at all check the safety switch in the lid. Most machines will not spin if the lid is open or if the safety switch is not depressed. If that is OK, the next thing to check is the drive belt.
