Does anyone know any website or software to check Plagiarism of an essay?
I’m a Secondary school teacher and when we mark essays, we put certain key phrases or even passages into the ‘advanced search’ of Google where you can type an exact phrase and it will search for that. It does come up now and again where people have just copied a sentence from a website and i know many teachers use this method, certainly at my school. When considering this though, you have to have a very good understanding of the individual pupil and the type of language they use in everyday life. If they don’t talk like a historian in class and they suddenly do in an essay, they may just have lifted it. Use language that ‘you’ would use in the subject and not someone else (younger students often lift words or sentences from adults that sound good which backfires when you ask them to read it back to you or tell you what a word means!) as this is one of the keys to spotting plagiarism.
