I too am interested in reading more in-depth material on the Franco-Prussian War of 1870 -71. I do know Henry Labouchere wrote a report for the British Daily News entitled ‘The Siege of Paris’, December 1870 – and the report was sent out by balloon. Well, that idiot Napoleon thought he was going to win the war, but he was wrong. He lost, and not only the war, also the empire. It was a war for the dominant power in Europe. Prussia was growing in size, and becoming more powerful. Napoleon wanted to stop them in order to be himself the dominant country. He demanded of the king of Prussia that he would never allow any Prussian to become king of Spain. The king refused and Napoleon took this as a provocation, declaring war. But it was a pretext. Napoleon was already looking for a reason to declare war to Prussia.
