Does anyone know any history about the roman republic?
The Roman Republic was founded in 509 BC. The military organization was as follows: The nobles supplied heavy cavalry. The rest of the population were divided into 5 classes, and served as required (decided by lot) when there was a military campaign. Hastati – pick of the youth Triari – veterans Principes – new recruits Rorarii – untried youths Accensi – least efficient and reliable part of the population. all were equipped as heavy infantry. The army was usually commanded by one of the Consuls elected for that year. Reforms by Camillus in 285 BC reduced the infantry to the first 3 classes, plus light infantry called velites recruited from the last 2 classes. Reforms by Marius in 105 BC reorganized the infantry into all heavy infantry professional legions serving for a fixed term of enlistment.
