Does anyone know any fun things to do while camping?
Satellite watching. Yeah, I know it sounds stupid but you can actually see them. The solar panels that are built into them reflect enough light. They look like stars that move. On a clear night with 2-3+ people we have counted over 40 of them. The best time for watching is the first 2-3 hours after sunset and before sunrise. A new moon is best. Put out the lanterns and campfire. We make a game of it. If you spot one, you get to count it toward your total. Highest total wins. But here’s the catch…it only counts if someone else sees it as well. So you have to try to give a description of where it’s at and which direction it’s moving. (IT’S BY THAT STAR!!!) Some are very faint and most don’t stay visible across the entire sky so speed is important. Anything with colored lights is a plane and doesn’t count. We’ve spent countless hours doing this and have taught our children the game as well…
