get a basin, line the bottom with aluminum foil, put the silver in the bin and pour VERY HOT WATER over the silver (so the silver is covered with water) then get a couple handfuls of salt and sprinkle it over the silver. As the salt dissolves, the electical charge between the aluminum and the sodium will make a lot of the tarnish come off. If you want it to be extra shiny you can use toothpaste (the kind with baking soda in it works best in my opinion) and apply it with an old tooth brush to get the tarnish completely off – although if you’re doing this with something has a lot of engraving, sometimes its nice to leave a bit of tarnish so it’s easier to see the detail of the design.
