Does anyone know about the Citizenship exam in the UK?
As many people have already said, it already exists. However, It is required for Indefinite Leave to Remain status, not citizenship. This status provides individuals with the right to work, remain in the UK and receive benefits indefinitely. Once a person has had this status for 1 year, they can continue with an application for citizenship so that they can vote and hold political office. Therefore, you could argue that it is not really a citizenship exam. Also, a person would not need ever take this test if they (1) received British Citizenship via birthright; (2) seek to simply work in the UK on a short term work visa; or (3) immigrate from another EU country without pursuing citizenship rights. However, even a person seeking Indefinite Leave to Remain status could also get around taking the test by passing an English for Speakers of Other Languages (EOSL) “Skills for Life” qualification in speaking and listening which includes units on the information covered in the ‘citizenship exam
