Hi, I took sociology as an A level about two years ago. It can have a lot of essay writing depending on the teachers style. Lessons typically for me consisted of 4 things, looking at sociological perspectives such as feminism which Was mostly done using group discussion and short questions, looking at studies which involved class disscussion and some silent reading, answering question sheets or text book questions which vary in size, and revision/practice for the exams which is usually long essay writing. The exam will typically consist of something like one short 2 mark question which is usually a definition of something, a medium say 4 mark question, a larger 6 mark question and finally something like a 20 mark question. To get good marks I found that you need to be able to recall large amounts of info and to be able to structure clear relavant essays that are straight to the point, so if this is one of your weaknesses then maybe you might struggle to pick up higher marks.
