Does anyone know a lot about trees, their growth habbits, and growth rates?

I saw an inspiring show on HGTV and have been looking into the feasability of Growing a Tree house on my acre of land. If it works well and I find myself in a position later in life I am hoping to buy some land to experiment with. For now I am limited to an acre, which seems like a lot, until you start seriously thinking about a project involving multiples of trees.
