Does anyone in the MLB throw an eephus pitch?
I know for certain Vicente Padilla of the Los Angeles Dodgers does throw an eephus pitch. For those who don’t know, an eephus pitch is a pitch thrown at a very low velocity for the purpose of surprising opposing hitters. No I’m not thinking of his curveball. He throws an actual eephus pitch and was called as such by the broadcasters and MLB.com. It does have a big break, that is right but how does that make it NOT an eephus pitch? If anything, you look up eephus pitch online and it is typically characterized as having a big break and remaining in the 50 MPH zone as does the pitch from Padilla. Here is a video of Padilla’s pitch.
