Does anyone here have experience with a medical transcription job from home?

I am currently working from home as a medical transcriptionist for a local company. My company expects approximately 20 hours a week from me, although they can be flexible. My typing speed is not extremely fast (maybe 50 wpm) but I did graduate from an online course (Career Step) with Honors so I do not have to spend a lot of time looking up information. My checks average about $250.00 every other week after taxes are taken out. I have only been employed a few months so I know this amount will increase with more experience. Not to mention when they do not feel it necessary to check my work anymore, I do get a raise. Keep in mind that many factors play into the amount you make. Typing speed, knowledge, and the type of employment you are interested in are only a few factors. There are many many types of transcriptionist employment options out there: self-employment, independent-contractor, emplyee based, and in-house to name a few. Every one of these pays differently. I’m doing medical transcription at home for the past few months now for a physician’s office. The timings are flexible and allow me to work without neglecting my twins and home. You could have your own business and be self-employed or work for a doctor or a hospital. I took it up because I’m good at typing and have always been inclined toward the medical field. Didn’t want to be a doctor, NO, but medical jargon always fascinated me, so here I am! If you’re serious about it, get trained as a medical transcriptionist which will increase your chances of finding a job. Many vocational schools and community colleges offer training in medical transcription. CareerStep Canada, for instance, has an online program for those who wish to pursue MT as a profession.
