Does anyone here belong to a Toastmasters Club?
It is mostly about public speaking, but it teaches you to be an effective communicator in general (speaking & writing). There is also a leadership component to the Toastmasters program. Everyone starts off with what is called the Competent Communicator manual, which has ten projects that teach basic speaking skills: how to organize a speech, how to use body language/gestures, how to vary your vocal dynamics (tone, pitch, pacing, etc), how to use visual aids/props. After you finish the Competent Communicator manual, there are several advanced specialty manuals you can start: storytelling, professional speaking, public relations, technical presentations, communicating on television, special occasion speeches, etc. I would say that if you are in a situation where you do a lot of speaking, Toastmasters can help you keep your skills sharp.
