Does anyone have experience negotiating salary with early stage start-ups?
I am in discussions with a start-up in the financial services area. The two partners starting it are specialists in sales and marketing. I have a finance MBA from Wharton and 15 years of consulting/strategy/M&A experience. There is no VC involved and expectations are that the 2 partners will put up the capital needed. It seems likely that more capital will be required than they currently anticipate. I would be the third employee and have broad responsibilities including CFO, Chief Investment Officer, and setting up a department of registered investment advisers to serve clients. I know that the partners’ preference is to compensate mostly by granting an interest in the company. I am wondering if anyone has experience with the types of negotiations and can offer insight?
