Does anyone have experience in placing the battery for the windlass in the bow of the boat?
Putting a battery near the windlass allows you to run smaller cables to that battery for charging (and really big ones from the that battery to the windlass. You probably still want to have the engine running, both to keep the battery charged as much as possible and to ease up on the anchor with engine power (please do not pull the boar forward with the windlass). That is the only real reason to have a dedicated battery there AFAIK, smaller cabling… If the windlass is run from batteries that are aft, then the cable has to be sized to industry standards to prevent voltage drop over that long length of wire. When looking at those charts don’t forget to DOUBLE the distance to the bow in order to measure the total path of wire… Also consider that you will be placing more weight forward… can you carry that with your chain and anchor and windlass… More weight in the ends means more hobby-horseing…
