I’ve found that raising the Diffuse Falloff value greatly increases the “soft” look of an object. This setting varies the curve along which diffuse light falls off before it gets to the object’s 90% line and disappears completely. Raising it gathers the diffuse light up, so that there’s a more gradual falloff near the 90% line. It will also make the object look somewhat darker, so you’ll need to use more light on it.
