Does anyone have any tips for backstroke sprinting?
It depends on where your strengths are, but the general rule of thumb for sprint backstroke is quick, powerful uw kick outs and a high turnover. Some people get more benefit out of pushing the uw kicks to the 15 m mark, while others are better served popping up closer to 10 m and getting into the stroke. Have someone time you to 20 yards and try different combinations of uw kicks and see which is the fastest. Based on your comment that you’re happy with your 200, I’m guessing basic technique is okay. That leaves training, which is in the hands of your coach. He should be able to tell you which extra exercises will best complete the training regimen you’re doing. Arrange a sit down with Coach after practice to talk about your goals and what needs to be done to reach those goals.
