Does anyone have any recommendations for reliable FireWire 800 external hard drives?

Hard drive failure is more a matter of when than if, so reliability is relative. I’m sure you will get all sorts of brand recommendations. I have had better luck with Western Digital than other brands over the years. Most manufacturers make a number of different lines, longer warranties are better. The price difference between a 500GB and 1TB drive simply isn’t that large any more, 1TB extrenal drives at $100 or so are pretty common, with FireWire 800 they might be a bit more expensive, but not much. The ultimate in reliability would be something like a Drobo, but it’s expensive. You can plug in multiole drives, and reolace them as they fail or you want to upgrade caoacity without losing data.
