How about a “make your own nigiri sushi ” bar… Not only will this take some of the work off of you, it will help the fish stay fresher by keeping it together longer, and it will let the children get involved… All you need to do is make the sushi rice and keep it covered with a moist tea/hand towel and leave it one end a table with a cutting board, a cooler filled 1/4 of the way with ice (it has to be large enough to hold a 12 pack of soda) with your 3 different types of fish (Tuna, Salmon, and mackerel are preferred) and a small bowl each of Wasabi and Gari on the other end… When the child comes to the table, have him/her grab about 6 small handfuls of rice (about the size of a mouse shaped into an oval) and have them walk to the end of the table where you will be waiting to cut them 6 slices of whichever fish they would like… Also, another idea to go along with the Japanese style of food is to make Yakisoba… Here is a recipe:
