Does anyone have a sample contract between co-authors theyd be willing to share?
My galpal has spent the past year co-authoring a book proposal for a non-fiction work with a friend. Both are experts in their field, but my friend is not the lead author because her co-author has previously co-authored something with a well known fitness guru. As a result, they agreed verbally from the beginning on an 80/20 split (it was originally planned with three authors as a 60/20/20 split, but the other co-author decided not to do the project). Once an offer was made on the work, my friend’s co-author suggested they both chip in for a lawyer to formalize a co-author agreement between the two of them. She said she would deal with the lawyer, and has since presented my friend with the lawyer’s proposed agreement: a “work for hire” contract which robs her of all rights to the work she’s already done, gives her the agreed upon percentage only for U.S. rights (and as “net”), gives the co-author the right to fire her and not pay her at her own discretion, and makes her responsible for
