Steel-cut oats are easy to prepare the night before. For 1 serving put 1 cup water and 1/3 cup oats into a pan, bring to a boil, turn off, cover and let sit. They’re ready the next morning to add all the goodies you like with your cereal. I usually add fruit, nuts and a protein. My favorite proteins are yogurt, cottage cheese or tofu, as they don’t increase my allergy symptoms.

Irish oatmeal is steel-cut oats. They can be bought in bulk at many health food stores and I like the flavor and texture better than rolled oats.
