Does anyone have a cure for vulvar dermatitis in a golden retriever please?
“Vulvar dermatitis” is not really a diagnosis: it only means that the skin around the vulva of your dog is sore but it does not give out the cause of the trouble. Therefore, there is no treatment for “vulvar dermatitis”. The treatment will depend on the underlying cause of the dermatitis: – Bacterial / fungal infection – Parasites such as fox mange or demodectic mite – Allergic disease leading ongoing licking and trauma around the back end – Vaginitis / cystitis leading to licking and trauma around the back end – Skin fold dermatitis …. I recommend that appropriate steps are taken towards making a precise diagnosis of the condition affecting your dog: – Thorough exam to make sure skin fold dermatitis is not a possibility – Skin scrapings / hair plucks for infections – Vaginal exam for vaginitis – Urine sampling for cystitis – Blood testing for hormonal imbalances – Food trial and allergy testing …..
