First I would refer you to “Walden” by Henry David Thoreau. He was one of the first transcendentalists and brought attention back to the natural world by voluntarily living in a small cabin in the woods to find simplicity and peace. http://www.amazon.com/Walden-Henry-David-Thoreau/dp/1420922610/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/002-7089657-3142465?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1192228042&sr=1-1 Another title I would give you is “The Good Earth” by Pearl S. Buck. The protagonist is a poor peasant farmer that toils his whole life, finally becoming a wealthy landowner. While his children eventually move to the city, he does not forget that he wouldn’t have what he had if it wasn’t for his land.
