But now I just have the online subscription. The online subscription gives you access to every printed article, quite a ways into the past. The content is no different than in the printed magazine, though a few tidbits from the printed magazine are left out (like the examples of ridiculous advertising claims on the inside back cover.) I like them both, but I couldn’t justify paying for both. The online version is easier to search, and it is always available. But the printed version is more fun to read, and you might see things you wouldn’t think to search for. For instance, the printed version had an article on identity theft a few months ago, and I wouldn’t have thought to search for that topic on the online version, and I wouldn’t have seen it otherwise. So what I actually do is go to bookstores, and while I am attending to all my other bookish errands, I pick up and flip through the latest Consumer Reports just to see what they are covering.
