Does anyone feel that Berkley Gulp and (or) Powerbait……..?
The “Monkees” song “Im a believer” says it all for the “Powerbait” products, but the Gulp! is CRAP!, as it is a nonreusable product that starts its decomposition when you open the package & expose it to the air, and once you immerse it in water, you can’t put it back in the package, without contaminating the rest of the product, and to me, it just doesn’t have that “come & get me”, or the ” I’m here, so what are you going to do about it, “flavortude” ( a word that I just now coined) that the “Original” Powerbait has consistently utilized in bringing out the “mean” in Mr. L. M. Bass. Because where I fish, the bass don’t take kindly to something that intrudes their territory, and in addition to it’s size & color being a threat, (as bass are very responsive to something that looks threatening), the fact that it “smells” threatening is probably the stronger key to actually attacking the bait itself, as I’ve had bass only 8″ long, attack a 10″ PowerWorm, until it found itself caught on a 5/
My only problem with Gulps is that here in the Indian River Lagoon System, the dang pufferfish will eat them off your hook if you’re not careful, but they’re the same way with anything else that smells like food, they get thick sometimes, but ooo, if you can get past the puffers the only thing I haven’t caught on gulps that I fish for is mangroves (maybe a smaller gulp model) and snook (not too prevalent in keeper range in my area), rig one weedless on a jig and toss it out behind the kayak when I’m just drifting…. redfish city right there, just gotta get it far enough behind the kayak and off to one side where the fish aren’t spooked and just drifting along with that gulp shrimp bumping along the bottom, the weight from the jighead stirring up a bit of dirt…. niiiice…
