I think your certainly correct about his earlier years being best. To be honest, for me it was never quite the same after Sarah Jane left, which was also about the same time that the brilliant Hinchcliffe and Holmes production team was replaced. His first series (series 12) had wonderful stories such as “Genesis of the Daleks”, The Ark in Space” and “The Sontaran Experiment” as well as a couple of lesser but fairly interesting ones – “Robot” and “Revenge of the Cybermen” Baker’s 2nd series in particular (series 13) was the best ever in my opinion. Every other series in the history of Doctor Who had at least one below-par story, but every one in series 13 was a classic – “Terror of the Zygons”, “Planet of Evil”, “The Pyramids of Mars”, “The Brain of Morbius”, “The Android Invasion” and “The Seeds of Doom” – not a single dud amongst them.
