Does anyone else think that the movie Water for Elephants is terrible?
Although I certainly appreciate and agree with your sentiment, there are other concerns that play into this issue. Hopefully, everyone is aware that Elephants are social animals on the level of human beings. Just like us, they require social relationships for wellbeing. Most zoos and circuses lack the social environment for such wellbeing to occur and therefore must be seen as a detriment to the Elephants involved. One benefit that zoos and circuses provide Elephants in general is awareness by the general public of both their existence and value. When people see the value in something, because it plays a personal role in their lives, then they work to protect that thing. Movies that increase awareness about the plight of an Elephant in a circus can serve as the stimulus to changing those conditions in the future.
