Does anyone else in Brooklyn, NY see that bright “star” in the sky?
It’s definitely not a satellite, as they move across the sky in seconds or minutes. It could be a planet (Venus is very bright and visible just now), though they slowly move about the sky so aren’t in the same place each year. It could be a bright star – Sirius is the brightest (apart from the sun!), so maybe that’s what you’re seeing. Certainly all the stars appear to move across the sky each night – that’s just the “celestial sphere” rotating, really just the earth rotating under the sky. To say for sure what you’re seeing we’d need more information, but my guess is you’re seeing Venus, which is extremely bright in the south-west if you look out in the early evening.
