This is actually a theory as to why we have dreams. We have dreams to ‘rehearse’ or ‘practice’ things we do in day to day life. Anything that requires skill (even simple things like shopping), we rehearse via dreams. Especially things that we have been having truoble with. You know how you dream abuot things that you thought about before going to bed? Likely, you were thinking about them because you were having some kind of trouble with them. As for the deja vu, it’s because we can’t usually recall our dreams very well. They’re vague, and often we have to fill in the gaps in them, for the bits we don’t remember. If we forget about them, we don’t fill in the gaps. Then, when you repeat the task the memory that was similar to it springs back into your head. Your mind suddenly fills the gaps with what you are doing now, and you temporarily take in less information from your surroundings as it does this.
