Does anyone else have children diagnosed with bipolar disorder?
Yes, I have an 11 yo son with bipolar disorder. He was 8 yo when diagnosed. Prior to the BP diagnosis, it was ADHD and ODD, diagnosed when he was 3 or 4 yo. My son doesn’t rage as you’ve described but there are many parents out there who regularly deal with rages. I suggest joining a Bipolar support group to get more help for yourself. It does a world of good to be able to hear from other parents dealing with this disorder. Yahoo groups has a number of groups that are for parents of bipolar children. You also said that your child is on meds and in therapy. Is she on a mood stabilizer and an anti psychotic med? Have you asked the psychiatrist about a medication that you can administer as needed, for when her rages are out of control and she is physically violent to herself or others?
