I work in the embedded computing world, and every single day of my life I come across new acronyms. The technology is changing so fast, it’s impossible to keep up with it. And since I’m in operations, I deal with a lot of the accounting, shipping and distro acronyms, also. On a typical day, I’ll receive a PO from an OEM or CDP that needs to be FOB ASAP. Every application has its own unique set of acronyms that have sprung up around their technology. For example, I might get a memo having to do with lawful intercept that reads like this: There is currently no standardized definition for IRI for IP traffic. IRI has been defined for a few services that might run over IP (e.g., VoIP) or that IP runs on top of (e.g., GPRS). For example, IRI for VoIP could be the called and calling phone numbers. Um. Oh-kay. Or I might get a phone call like this: “Tell the FE to call the CRC and confirm the customers TNB PO number and CR and tell him it’s EOL”, which basically means “Tell the field engineer
