Eris was hailed as the “tenth planet” when its discovery was announced (then known as 2003 UB313) in 2005 Cal Tech press release from 29 July 2005 http://media.caltech.edu/press_releases/… Discovery team leader Mike Brown’s page on (136199) Eris = 2003 UB313 = Xena http://web.gps.caltech.edu/~mbrown/plane… Eris is a bit bigger than Pluto but both are now classed as dwarf planets under the IAU definition passed in August 2006.
