Well, of course there were dinosaurs, so yes, in a sense, that memory would have been passed down. It is interesting that the oldest civilization on earth (Chin, or Chinese) centered much of their country’s mythology around the dragon, a positive energy in their culture to this day. Marco Polo would have experienced this first hand, before returning to Europe with the experiences in tow. Today there are still “Kimodo dragons” by name, still living. They originate from Indonesia. Their emergin reptilian tongue would give the image of a forked flame to some observers. It is speculated by many historians that when Europeans traveled through areas with crocodiles, (North Africa, for example, hosted the other most ancient culture on earth, the Egyptian/Nile culture) and observed the steam emerging from their breath, that they either believed, or imagined that these “dragons” were breathing fire (“where there’s smoke, there’s fire”) and took this mythology back to Europe with them.
