Does anyone belieave that the Cold War was combat without a shot fired?
The cold war wasn’t a “war”. It was a state of existence for the entire world. The whole world was thrown into three political zones of influence and allegiance: The First World, comprised of the west; NATO; America, Western Europe, and much of East Asia; The Second World, comprised of the East, Eastern Europe and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics; and finally, The Third World, which was led by the “non-aligned movement”. These were countries that had no allegiance, or refused to support either the USA or the USSR. During this time both the United State and the Soviet Union dedicated an appreciable amount of its financial resources to their armed forces; strategically deploying them around the world. Overtly, America placed military forces in the geo-strategic main stakes of the cold war; Europe, Asia, and the middle east. These forces sought to deter an armed attack by the Soviets.
