Yes, the Dean of Students Office provides case management for students who exhibit concerning behaviors. A student who is admitted or evaluated at the Emergency Department (ED) for a psychiatric issue will be referred for case management. The Assistant Dean of Students for Case Management will then follow-up with the student to create a treatment plan with the student. Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) remains available for consultation and to arrange assessments or treatment if the student is not already receiving care. The Case Manager will request that the student sign a release of information so that mental health treatment providers can provide essential treatment plan and attendance information. Although every effort is made to enhance communication with emergency response providers, as a result of HIPAA, the Dean-on-Call is not regularly notified of a student’s admission or discharge from the ED or inpatient unit.
